"Village"
I walked through your village today and sighed,
Anticipating all of the ancient treasures, I might find.
I walked through your village today and heard,
The mournful cry of an eagle,
Circling, searching for it's now dead mate.
I walked through your village today and tasted,
Flowing water from a once fresh spring,
Now bitterly tainted with chemicals.
I walked through your village today and saw,
Where shade giving conifers once grew,
Hot asphalt and concrete.
I walked through your village today and smelled,
The aroma of once fresh wild flowers,
Lost in the polluted wind.
I walked through your village today and touched,
An arrow head broken,
Mixed with the refuse of humankind's progress.
I walked through your village today and cried,
Sensing the loss of your ancient treasures,
No longer to be found.
