Helium's guide for writing effective reviews: For movies, books, products and more

You can write an effective movie or book review. Here are 10 tips so that you can write a strong review that will be informative and motivating for potential viewers, readers, librarians, and booksellers. Better yet, it will be a great review for publishing on Helium.

1.In recalling a book or movie and reviewing the effect it had on you, make some written notes about what points you want to discuss in your book review.

2.As you get your mind in gear, pretend that you are talking to a friend rather than writing like a professor or teacher writing to students.

3.In your first paragraph, name the author and the title of the book or movie?. What is the theme or genre of this book or movie? This will tell the reader immediately if your review is a book they could be interested in.

4.In that first paragraph, carefully choose words and phrases to persuade your reader that you have something to say of importance.

5.Your reader will want to know if the book you reviewed is a mystery, biography, romance, etc. If it is a movie, what type of movie is it? What is its rating? Your reader know early in your book review. How does the author approach their genre?

6.Refer to those points in Tip #1 above and write one paragraph for each point you are going to make about this book or movie. Each paragraph should support the importance of the point your are discussing.

7.What do you like about this book or movie? Why does this book stand out ? Be clear in your purpose. Do you think this is a book or movie people should read or view or stay away from?

8.Include some short quotes to support your reasons for liking or disliking the book or movie. Quotes are also important because the reader can then get a sample of the writer's style.

9.Share some of the plot without giving the story away.Readers will want to see if it is their kind of movie, so your review should touch on the aspects that made it particularly interesting and worthwhile to them.

10.Locate biographical information that will add meaning to your book or movie review.

Follow this format and you will have a good Helium book or movie review.
