The continental United States boasts a plethora of primitive natural escapes for travelers who consider themselves nature enthusiasts- and for those simply seeking tranquility. Using the perimeter of the US as an outline and venturing inward, every imaginable landscape is present. Between the Pacific coast, the outer edges of New England, and the Gulf of Mexico, rests some of the most diverse, beautiful, and photographed scenery in the world.
Northern California is a surreal and picturesque corner of the country with almost oxymoronic landscapes as neighbors. Views from the northernmost coastal region alongside Redwood National Forest, both ancient and magnanimous Redwoods and giant white-capped Pacific waves can be experienced in unison, inducing serenity and awe-inspiring appreciation of such a rare combination. Also known for its abundance of killer whale sightings, this particular region, north of San Francisco and due south of the Oregon border, has many elements that make it particularly fascinating and unique to visit.
Further inland, the Front Range of the Colorado Rocky Mountains is often considered one of the most enchanting and beautiful views in the country. Immense numbers of quaint mountain towns are scattered throughout the depths of the Rockies and between those lay innumerable ghost towns, some revamped and others left surprisingly as they were decades ago. Beautiful anytime of year, the Rockies offer something different throughout every season- although the most towering and remote areas are not accessible year round via vehicle. One of the most scenic drives in the country- Trail Ridge Drive- crosses Rocky Mountain National Park east to west and rims the outer edges of the mountains, venturing well above 14,000 feet. Crossing the Continental Divide, meadows filled with Big Horn Sheep and other indigenous wildlife, the most mesmerizing mountaintop views of the Rocky Mountains, and sometimes an oil painter in the distance can be seen within only a few miles of one another. Trail Ridge Drive is an incredible way to experience every inch of mountain glory.
Central Texas' Hill Country is known for its close proximity to both the Guadalupe and Colorado Rivers, all while surpassing rolling green hillsides and hypnotizing fields of cerulean blue bonnets- the Texas state flower, only found in this nonpareil region of the country.
