My greatest accomplishments

My writing is what I am the most proud I have accomplished. I never knew that I could write! Many of my friends and family members have now read my writing and flooded me with compliments. It makes me feel good when I realize I can convey my feelings and thoughts through the most powerful medium on earth.

I have always been blessed with a vivid imagination, and the creativity to bring these fantasies to life on paper. But never before had I pushed myself to write, and better learn how to express myself. I had never allowed anyone, not even family members to read the thing I wrote. Sometimes it was because I was fearful they would take things I wrote the wrong way. But in reality I was scared of rejection. If my own family members rejected my writing, then what hope would I have that I could have a future career as an author? Yes, being an author was my small unknown dream I kept hidden only in the papers that were filled with my scribbling.

Although I wrote while in school, these were only book reports or essays on famous persons. They weren't from my heart. None of them showed the "real" me though the words.

So after a while, I stopped writing. My imagination still designed stories, and I over and over "edited" them, making the stories flow in my head. But I didn't lay my pen to paper. I was afraid of defeat. Afraid of being told my best means of expression were not good enough.

But slowly and surely, the things in my head willed themselves to be written out on paper. I tremblingly took up a pen and put the words down. I entered a few small essay contests, but I was not ready yet. Nothing came of those I had written, and again I was ready to quit.

But something happened; I saw this website and decided to investigate it further. I did not sign up immediately. In fact, it was a whole month before I was ready to immerse myself in writing. During that time, I finished a short story and entered it in a competition. I made the first cut, and it renewed my faith in my writing ability. I could write and others saw that too.

So I was ready; ready for everyone to read the "real" me. I signed up on Helium and eagerly wrote my first article. Though barely 200 words long and only one paragraph in length, it pushed me forward. I knew now I must write, it was in my being, it was a part of my life.

Then things stared to happen with my Helium account. Pennies flooded on to my earning page. I placed in a contest, be it
