Care for a short dip in a long pool?
Are you a swimmer looking for a unusual place to partake of your favorite sport? Do you loathe swimming in public pools and prefer to take your dip in the great seas and mighty oceans? Do I have news for you!
Be prepared to experience the swim of your life. This swimming pool measures a whopping 1,000 yards long and retains a ultimate coverage of 20 full acres. At its deepest part is measures 115 feet deep and to fill it takes 66 million gallons of water. The water within the pool is so sparkler clear that you are able to see the bottom even in the deep end of the lagoon. Think about receiving that water bill!
This gargantuan pool is located in the vicinity of the Sea of Chile and was recently listed within the Guinness Book of Records as the largest artificial pool in existence. It entailed five long years of construction for this marvel to be built at a cost of nearly two billion American dollars. The annual upkeep alone for this colossal venture outlays four million dollars per year.
The pool is computer administered, in that a PC controls the entire water filtering system bringing in thousands of gallons of fresh ocean water into the structure while pumping it out at the other end of the pool. The pool is solar heated by the sun to a comfortable temperature of 79 degrees Fahrenheit, which is on the order of nine degrees warmer, then the adjoining ocean.
Prior to this pools manufacture, the largest swimming pool identified was the "Big Splash" located in Morocco. It measured 150 yards long with a width of 100 yards. Keep in mind that the typical Olympic pools generally measure a mere 50 yards long by 25 yards wide. Although now with the opening last month of this pool off Chile's coast at Algarroba within the resort of Alfonso del Mar, this manmade lagoon has been attracting large numbers of fans.
The pool was the brainchild of Biochemist Fernando Fischmann who contends that with his design he is able to construct artificial paradises even in the harshest of environments as long as there is access to a steady source of ocean water.
Now are you anti-pool swimmers ready to take the plunge?
