How to rate a Helium article

Rating is an intrinsic part of Helium and it quite literally pays for us to become accomplished at not only writing, but also assessing and grading the written work of other Helium members.

Once you have developed a checklist of what to look for in an article, rating will become much easier and you shall find yourself fluent in this art- form. The key is to rate as accurately and fairly as possible- just as you would wish others to do so with that article you have worked so hard on. We writers at Helium are given quite a weighty responsibility in rating our fellow members' work- let us do justice to this and, in turn, we shall be rewarded with learning from their strengths and mistakes.

Let us then compile a check list of how to rate a Helium article:

1) Read the article thoroughly- you will not be able to rate justly unless you do. Yes, rating can be tiresome so perhaps only rate a few per day to keep your level of concentration. The article should always keep within the confines of that title and every paragraph relate to exactly what is being asked. Waffling' and inadvertent wandering is a common writer's blunder but it is important that it is recognized whilst rating. A written piece of work should be concise, clear and made up of sharp, relevant points.

3) Spelling, punctuation and grammar are very significant. Correct usage will result in an intelligent, well-written, polished article yet misuse and negligence can render an article just the opposite. No matter how good the content, poor spelling, punctuation and grammar should dramatically affect the overall rating score. For many of us have an inherent inability to spell or are grammatically challenged but virtually all word-processor programs have a tool which will effectively correct these to leave your work perfect. Let us not forget; these three fundamentals make up the core of writing and we
