path to citizenship, this solution provides a very practical answer to the agricultural needs and what to do about the millions of illegal immigrants inside the United States. However, it fails to force individuals to respect US law and fails to engage other nations to uphold US sovereignty. Therefore, it is an incomplete solution.

The US does have a guest worker program that allows employers to hire documented migrant workers, but the program can be a large financial burden on employers and there are very tight limits to the number of workers that each state can provide. This causes severe problems for those who have a shortage of workers. For years, America overlooked illegal immigrates on farms as it was a means of promoting inexpensive food; expanding and adapting this program would allow employers like farmers to hire more migrant workers on an annual basis at lower cost which will help solve this problem. As for the borders, officials will have to physically stop illegal traffic and, in the case of foreign diplomacy, the US needs to work with nations that have an immigration problem to form economic partnerships that economically seek to fulfill the interests of Americans and foreigners.

Above all, America must primarily look out for its interests and must seek to protect Americans and immigrants from the dangers associated with illegal immigration. This will require a multiple number of solutions that have yet to be resolved into one coherent strategy. As for the problem of illegal immigrants already inside the US, there must be a solution that respects US law as convenience cannot override the Law while the solution must be practical and human. Such a solution needs to avoid criminalizing illegal immigrants as this argument over immigration is already headed away from solving the problem and moving toward nothing but an emotional mess. The solution that resolves all interests in the illegal immigration debate is the one that this Nation needs to embrace, but that solution does not exist yet.
