Let me start by saying that I am an Independent driven to this end by the lack of leadership and petty fighting in and by both lead political parties. It seems that both Republicans and Democrats are more interested in following the precepts of their party's platforms, than trying to really fill the needs of the country.
I have viewed, heard and read about debates and positions of candidates from both parties. We are truly a naive nation. When social programs are mentioned," We need a program to do this and that- Medical insurance for everyone- Minimum wage increases each year, etc., NOBODY has asked any of the candidates,"Where is the money coming from? Who pays for all this?
Are we stupid? We have an unmanageable national debt. We are in the midst of a "recessed" economy (or at least an economy exhibiting all the symptoms of recession). All that Iraq oil that was supposed to help fund the war and stabilize oil prices hasn't left Iraq's oil fields.
The price of oil is over $100 a barrel. And, make no mistake about it, oil is the driving force in inflating prices of every product and service on this earth. Every product used an oil derivative in manufacturing or as an ingredient. Are we simply going to let supply and demand rule, or should we appeal to our Saudi and other "friendly" oil-producing nations to "get the lead out" and help stabilize prices.
We have too many politicians with supposed "good intentions" and hollow promises who want to give away the store. The only problem is that we're all paying for the store and we can't even sample the merchandise.
We are dealing with, what seems to be a never-ending dichotomy - politicians, the truth and what's best for the country, not them. It's sort of like the word "Sale." Every time a store has a "Sale", it implies to me, at least, that all the people who bought "sale products" at regular prices before the sale, got screwed. All these politicians keep on handing us the pre \-sale product - doing whatever for us without telling us what the financial impact will be.
I'm not an Idealist, I'm a Realist. I'm not "Blinded by the light and the hype." I hope many of you won't be either.
