prescription drugs, men, and or alcohol. Both mothers have been offered treatment options numerous times, but chose their addictions over their children. The children still love these reprobate mothers and want to see them occasionally, but neither would ever choose to return to those former living conditions now that they know there is something else. Essentially, the mothers and the new husband and boyfriend are getting off Scot free. Someone else is taking care of the day to day needs of their children, and they get to see and hug them sporadically without responsibility. Putting the kids first is essential, but there needs to be some penalty for these parents who have children and neglect or abuse them or allow someone else to. The problem is rampant; and not all of these children have someone like my daughter in their lives to take up the slack. It is my guess that the majority do not, and they either fend for themselves or get thrown into a system which is badly broken. There are how to books for everything in the world including parenting, but these are not parents who read. The mother of the 10 year old girl has had four children. The other three are boys. Two of the four children have the same father, the other girl and boy were sired by two other men. This mother does not have custody of any of the children, but wants another. At what point do we look at this problem for what it is, an epidemic. Our CPS departments are overworked, understaffed and underfunded in every city and state. There are never enough foster homes for children of these derelict parents, and many of the foster homes are anything but safe havens. We as a society must find a way to care for the children. They are our future.
It has been said that there are no delinquent children; only delinquent parents. More and more I am seeing the truth of this adage.
