The Benefits of Yoga



For millions of years people have been practicing the art of yoga. Not only as an exercise, but a way of life. You must live life in a way that makes you feel fulfilled. The decision to start practicing yoga is a psychological one also. Yes you can do yoga as just an exercise, but will you be getting the full advantage of the workout? It is said that through the practice of yoga we can transform ourselves, gain control over the mind and emotions, overcome obstacles hindering our spiritual enlightenment, and attain the goal of yoga. That goal is to restore health and help contribute to a life of happiness and harmony.



What can you expect from doing yoga? Why is it becoming more and more popular? These are questions everyone interested in yoga has. Most people do not understand its full benefits. People have been using yoga for years to promote strength, flexibility, and alignment of the body. It is used for mind-body awareness and meditation. Some poses are also used for cleansing, balancing, and relaxing the body. Certain poses can increase energy. Others can help treat conditions such as headaches, fatigue, depression, stress, and several other aliments. They see it as just another exercise. Lets take a look at some of the other things to consider before start.

The tree pose improves posture, while increases muscle tone. Warrior poses improves breathing as well as stiffness in shoulders, back, and neck. The list could go on and on. In doing these poses you must remember to concentrate on how your muscle work together as one. Think about the movements and how they relate to each other. When you are in tree pose, what muscle are working? What about in warrior, can you tell? All of these moves to concentration and thought to get it right. Most of these moves are very precise, so it is always good to find a class to take. Getting the right stance is important to maintaining a good workout. Do not give up if you don't get it the first time. Not everyone does. There are modifications for lots of the poses.

Have you ever had a bad day? One of those days that ends in a headache you just can not get rid of. Well, if you have about thirty minutes at the end of the night, a small sessions can be very helpful to relax your body. Start with the twist poses. Twist poses can be done sitting, standing, or lying down. You then twist to the right and hold, release and twist to the left. Focus your energy on your breath and relax into the pose. As you do
