God created free will. He allows man to choose between right and wrong; good and evil. Although god does have the power to completely destroy the existence of evil, he won't. That would negate his whole concept of free will. God wants us to choose good over evil, not force us to do so. As far as I'm concerned , that short explanation should, simply put, answer the above question.
But this answer does not satisfy even me. I must elaborate.
Any general concept, in existence or yet to to be created, must always contain two opposing factors. Otherwise it is not a concept, it is just an existence. I know this sounds confusing, but I will explain by example.
To have light, you must have darkness. To travel fast, you must be able to travel slow. To open something, you must be able to close it.
If there was never any darkness, then light wouldn't be called light. It would just be a natural existence. If everyone and everything moved at the same rate of speed, it would not be described as fast or slow. It would simply be recognized or described as movement. If a door was constantly open, and could not be closed, then it would not be described as an open door. It would just be an entranceway. I hope I'm being clear.
I somewhat humorously blame the existence of evil on Adam and Eve. In the Garden of Eden, there was no wrong. Everything was just what it was; an existence. Then Adam and Eve partook of the forbidden fruit which God had told them not to. At this exact point in history, wrong and evil were created. As soon as evil was created, it had to have an opposite;good. This only the very short and simple explanation of the creation of good and evil. And I must point out, that this is only one mans quick interpretation of a biblical event. I have not even come close to representing the seriousness and wisdom of God's word.
But the question of why does evil exist is very valid. Life would be great if there were no wrongs; or if anything we chose to do was okay and accepted by God. But again, God gave us free will and wants us to recognize the difference between right and wrong.
For good to exist, there must be evil. Otherwise good would just be an everyday practice and way of life. Wouldn't that be nice!
