Summer vacations in Keystone, Colorado

We always hear a lot about Denver, the Mile High City, and for those of you who may not know about Denver...it's in Colorado. However, you may not know about Keystone, Colorado. Get a map...look it up! It is a beautiful part of the country.

What makes this particular town unique? Well, it's convenient to the "big city" being about an hour west of Denver. It sits in the White River National Forest and hosts three mountains named Decrum Mountain, North Peak and the Outback, ranging in height from 11, 640 feet, 11, 660 feet, and 11,980 feet, respectively. Wow!

There are guided tours, resorts, ski lessons, tubing, shopping and a host of other activities in this mountain wonderland. Nevertheless, I have questions on this topic.

Why? Why in the world would I ski at night? That's right...NIGHT SKIING! The good folks here boast about it too! You can check it out on their website. There are equipment rentals available also. So tell me, are the trees more visible in the moonlight? Do little creatures who creep out at night sit on the sidelines watching us for a change? Do the skis go slower on the downhill slopes? What appeal does this hold for one?

And "tree skiing'? Is this where the skier hits the tree line with legs spread and slides along the tree stripping of limbs and bark, with arms flailing and a twisted and bizarre look of pain on his or her face? I don't know, but you can find out at Keystone!

Another thing that caught my eye in the night skiing section was this phrase: Enjoy fresh corduroy during the afternoon grooms. What does the material of my pants have to do with that? I wasn't aware that you had to dress for this particular event!

There is daycare available if you need it! Wonderful...take the kids on vacation and then they can have a vacation from you, safe and fun-filled. What a plus!

Winter is not the only season to visit this mountain playground. Summer holds much fun also. There is golfing, fishing, hiking, shopping, and tours, just to name a few. Imagine enjoying the tall pines, the mountain views at sunset (or sunrise), and the invigorating mountain air. Ahhhh! There is also boating, biking, and a host of other activities in and around the area.

Drive through town; get to know your way around for shopping and for the food! Good food is a must on vacation! There are several different restaurants to choose from so that one will surely satisfy most any palate.

There are several wonderful resorts within this little hamlet. There is East Keystone, River Run Village, Mountain House, Lakeside Village, North Keystone and West Keystone. They all boast of wonderful accommodations, amenities, and services. To view them all, you can visit the website at http://keystone.snow.com/index skiride.asp

Also, all reservation information can be obtained by calling (877) 753-9786 to speak with a Reservations Agent.

I have played this down a bit, added some humor, and even a little sarcasm, but Keystone is beautiful and well worth your time to check out. There seems to be something for just about anyone. Come on; be brave! Grab your skis (if it's winter) or your golf clubs (if it's that time of year), or make plans to hold a conference or even a wedding, if you have need of such! Winter or summer, spring or fall, Keystone is not just a cold weather resort, nor is it is just a warm weather resort. Keystone is a vacation wonderland, a place for all seasons.
