How to get kids excited about writing

Kids like music more than anything else in the world. Music involves poetry and poetry is writing. They also like to act and these are two ways in which we can get kids interested in writing.

First of all, in order to write music, you need to be able to read it and so you can involve them both in reading and writing. First, have the kids read their favorite music lyrics. Second, you allow them to listen to their favorite music and song a few times over. Third, you have the child grab a sheet of paper and a pencil. Fourth, you have the child listen to the music and write down the words that they hear. Have the kid repeat until they get the words to the entire song written on paper word for word.

This is a very interesting technique that encouraged me to write when I was a kid. My sister and me used to love music and we would listen to our songs on our LP's and 45's and just copy down the words to our favorite songs. Next thing we knew we were trying to write our own lyrics and that is when I began to write poetry.

Moreover, if we come to see, lyrics are poetry and if we can get a child or two interested in poetry, then we will have one or two writers. Poetry is a wonderful way to get children interested in writing. Rap music involves lots of poetry and children like the stuff.

Likewise, children are wonderful actors and they are really good at acting. Again, acting involves being able to read so children will be interested in reading if it is a play that they created. Allowing children to create their own play according to what they are interested in would be a good way to get them interested in writing because they will each have to write their play.

Children love movies and it would be wise to let children read scripts of their favorite movies so that they can see that mostly everything has to be written before presented. Kids do not know that there are actually writers behind every movie that they like. Open that world up to our kids so that they can see that writing well is essential. Kids would be more interested in writing if they can create their own movies scripts.

In conclusion, we need to open the horizons to our kids and let them know that everything that they love to listen to and watch has a good writer behind it.
