When I was a little girl, I dreamed that I could speak to animals, that I'd be able to have some secret superpower, and that when I'd meet my Prince, I'd fall in love hopelessly instantly!

Now that I have matured, I understand that I will never have secret powers, that I can understand my animals but I will never have a true reciprocal conversation with them, and that though I have found my Prince, and I love him, it failed to have the bells and whistles I dreamed of in my youth.

Love at first sight is infatuation. It is a chemical reaction. A handy trick that Mother Nature tucked deep into our hidden urges, one perfected for survival of the human species.

Without really knowing someone, how can you really love them?

Certainly, a spark when meeting that special person can occur, but it is not love, it's an indicator that you should get to know them, that the interest is peaked!

Just as Puppy Love teaches us what learning what love is about, love at first sight is an indication of another lesson! That lesson is: I am attracted to this person; I think I can like them, and I think I can love them.

Now...what do I do? How do I do that?

Becoming friends with them, learning them and them learning about you, are wise first steps. When you enjoy spending time with someone, it clicks. There is no down time, no strained silences, and no uncomforted bumps which strain those within the dyad. This is a honeymoon period.

The smooth flow of pairing allows for romantic feelings to flourish! You might be so comfortable with your chosen mate; you open up and tell them things that you have not told anyone else, even your best friends! They may reciprocate, telling you their deepest fears, highest aspirations, and darkest secrets.

This sharing also harbors trust, security, and affection. All important components of a life long mate! The more you know them, the better you like them. The more you like them, the more you can see sharing your life with them.

Head over heels love comes once you know someone, once you know what's going on inside them and them, inside of you! More than just a nice face or great rear, more than a title or an education, Love is a JOURNEY! One made together, as a pair, and the road to forever is a long one with many bumps, bruise, twists, turns, joys and tears.

That journey is made greater, better, by the best friend at your side, the lover who holds your hand and reassures you, the one that you know who knows you. Life will not always be good to you, either of you. Life comes with change and some hard lessons.

This keeper of your memories is more than a romantic partner, they are there for you on this road with you, supporting you, understanding you, and loving you through it all. This is better than childhood fancies, this is real. This is gold.

It cannot be reached by just locking eyes. You must lock souls. This is forever.

This is true love.
