Essentials of banner ads

Internet advertising has evolved over the years. Advertising methods such as pop-up advertisements and banner advertisements have been around for over a decade. Although these types of advertisements are still used, programs such as pop-up blockers have severely limited the use and effectiveness of the pop-up form of advertising. However, banner advertisements are still used by many Internet advertisers and software is still available to create this kind of advertisement.

Banner advertisements are a form of online advertising which involves embedding an advertisement into a web page. A banner advertisement is intended to attract traffic to a website by linking the banner advertisement to the website of the advertiser. The advertisement is constructed from an image (such as a GIF, JPEG, or PNG file to name a few), JavaScript program, or multimedia object employing technologies such as Java, Shockwave, or Flash, often employing animation or sound to maximize presence.

Banner advertisements can be seen just about everywhere. As soon as you open up your web browser and your homepage loads, you will see all of the banner advertisements that are on your homepage. The appeal of banner advertisements is that they are more visually appealing than mere words. Some banner advertisements include video and even others include a game for the viewer to play. As a result, people are more likely to click on these advertisements in order to discover "what lies beneath," so to speak.

Because of the size and relative complexity of banner advertisements, it is unlikely that somebody will be willing to place your banner advertisement on their website for free. As such, you are more than likely going to have to pay a webmaster for the privilege of placing your banner advertisement on his/her/its page. If you have the advertising dollars to do this, you should look into placing banner advertisements. If, however, you do not have the money to pay other webmasters for this service, then banner advertisements may not be the best way to go.

However, just because you may have to pay other websites in order to place your banner advertisements, this does not mean that you cannot utilize banner advertisements. If you have webpages on social networking websites or on other article submission websites, banner advertisements may be an attractive option.

Analyze your options and see if a banner advertisement is the correct option for you. If you do not have the money to pay for banner advertising, look for free websites upon which you can place your advertisement.
