There is no question that the rule of Saddam Hussein was responsible for hundreds of thousands of deaths, not just in his own country, but as a result of his long war with Iran, as well as his unprovoked attack on the sovereign emirate of Kuwait.
However, that does not mean that he should himself be executed. His execution will only serve to further divide Iraq. For evidence of that, you need only look at today's headlines. Shiites are celebrating news of the execution, while Sunnis are demonstrating against it. While this is not shocking, it is still evidence that these divisions run far deeper to any loyalty these people have for a united Iraq. Why make a martyr of this man, and fuel further unrest and division.
Besides, a far better punishment for this man, instead of a quick death, would be a life imprisonment. He should be imprisoned for life in a cell with a large, homosexual man, who will teach him a new meaning for his name: Saddamy! It's tough to make a martyr out of a man who's getting sodomized daily.
