Mineral makeup: Is it for you

I remember trying mineral make up when it was first introduced on the cosmetic market. The idea of foundation in a powder form was personally appealing because there would be no messy liquid to deal with. The goal with mineral make up is to achieve a more natural appearance in wearing make up instead of the waxy look other foundation/blush combinations can make one appear to have. The minerals were advertised to be healthy for the skin as well.

The over-the-counter brand came in a retractable brush that released the powder from its chamber onto the brush ready to apply to the face. It would not only save time, but be easily accessible if in a hurry or in need of a quick touch up. A few swoops over the face and a nice even foundation look could be obtained. It didn't quite work out that way. The promised foundation equivalent appeared transparent after three attempts to apply the product even though I had purchased it in warm beige. My skin tone is fair to medium so I had already adjusted my usual foundation color accordingly.

I gave up until I witnessed a mineral makeup demo in a department store over a year later and my interest was peeked once again. The product seemed more perfected and the coverage was achieved without repeated attempts. The demo included the entire line from blush to eye shadow and introduced the unique brushes that were developed to apply the minerals for the most efficient, subtle coverage possible.

This time around, I was very pleased with the outcome and the fact that I witnessed a demonstration of how to properly apply mineral makeup really helped. There were three easy steps to applying this product that I was introduced to that insured I would attain the full benefits of this product:

Tap very little mineral powder into its lid

Take the partnering application brush and swirl it in lid until all powder is absorbed into the bristles

Tap brush a few times on side of lid to remove excess powder and swirl brush over face evenly. Repeat if necessary.

Since I have been using this particular brand of mineral make up, there have been new and improved brands introduced to the market. They claim to have the same results as my brand; however, I have stuck to my mine; why change something when it doesn't need changing? When it comes down to cost, the department store brands have a long shelf life; therefore, it makes up for the extra cost.

From experience and experimentation I can attest to the fact that mineral make up could be the newest success story in the cosmetic field today. My advice would be to get a professional make over (they are complimentary) and decide if this form of make up is fitting for you. The results may surprise you.
