Basic makeup tips for beginners

Make-up for the beginner, what a beautiful time in life. There are a few tips to choosing, applying and wearing makeup for the first time though. It is easy to run off excitedly, wallet in hand ready to create the new you. But keep in mind a few key points before doing so.

First, remember you already have natural beauty, so covering it up with pounds of foundation, eyeshadow and lipstick will only make the natural beauty vanish and quickly. Start light and compliment what you already have to work with.

Second, expensive does not always mean better. There is nothing more discouraging than purchasing all your make-up from those expensive specialty stores, just to find out the results were not what you expected. There are many name brand cosmetics that work beautifully and are very affordable.

Lastly, compare your skin tones with those on the package or guide. It is very noticeable when you apply a bronze or darker tan foundation to your light or pale skin tone. Also if you normally do not wear make-up, applying a lighter coat and taking it easy on the dark or bright eye-shadows will help in the transformation.

A wonderful rule of thumb to go by is determining your lifestyle and personality. Are you more of the beach goer, surfer girl type? Maybe you are a bit of a farmer girl or girl next door. Do you enjoy the nightlife and club scene? These are questions to ask yourself before stuffing your shopping bags full of glitz and glamor.

If you are the natural type, then stick with the natural look in make-up. Earth tones, peaches and beige's are delightful. If you are more of the outgoing social butterfly then a few bold shades such as blues, bronzes, reds and teals will be magical on you.

Remember you don't want to look like you just did a quick "photo-shop" trick on your face, you want it to blend naturally with your inner and outer beauty. So if you look like a clown when you are finished, then you probably are using the wrong shades for your skin type. adjust the shades accordingly, and most importantly test out different looks before buying your beauty tool box.

Lighten it up, bring natural back and enjoy your new look. You were always beautiful but now you glow, and remember, practice makes perfect.
