I seem to have a knack for choosing jobs where the person in power is not stable. Now, that probably says something about me, but they all start off seeming so darn normal!
Going back to when I first started working...way, way back that is! My first boss was a basically benign woman who had a tendency to lose things and basically just ask her employees to do really stupid things. She would come in and demand that we file something when the actual file was in her office. Things like that. She was hit on the head with a falling air conditioner while walking the streets of Manhattan one day and was never really the same though, so we all made excuses for her.
My next boss was actually normal, so we'll skip her! I started a job in health care. That is a fantastic field to work in if you like high stress jobs. My boss there was a really short, chubby woman who liked to yell at you for not being available when other people called in sick. If you're not on the schedule, there's no need to be available was a concept she just couldn't grasp. It was like being screamed at by a Weeble!
When that hospital was down sizing, I took a position in a private doctor's office, a husband and wife team. What a pair they were. Actually he was fine, but she was a bit insane. One Valentine's Day a few of us received flowers and she did not. So, later that day, we were all on our hands and knees climbing under cabinets doing all sorts of cleaning jobs that the janitorial service was supposed to do. If any of us were having a good day, she made sure she put an end to that. Only she was allowed to be in a good mood. Needless to say, that made for a stressful work environment!
I have worked for office managers that like to tell people they are stupid, doctor's who forget that they are supposed to allow you to leave at the end of the day and managers who were just basically rude. All nutty in their own way, but I now work for the craziest of them all! A woman with a self-esteem that is so low it's really 3 stories below ground.
This woman starts off trying to be your best friend. She calls at home to bad mouth other employees, rants and raves that her family isn't nice to her, and basically likes to put everyone down. Watch out if you disagree with her. She turns into a maniacal lunatic who screams, "I am the boss!" and bangs her hands on her desk. Those same hands are shaking through the whole confrontation because she is really so insecure. Imagine
