No matter how diligent you are when vacuuming, dusting and cleaning a person is in their home, some odors can linger for a long time. Odors sometimes have an ability to seep into furnishings, creating an environment that can sometimes be offensive to all those subjected to it.
Here is a look at some of those odors we can combat and effective ways to eliminate them.
~Babies
Your baby may smell like powder and lavender, but some of the odors they can emit can be very strong.
To eliminate odors caused by disposable diapers, place a couple of drops of lemon essential oil in your bin liner. Wrap the dirty diaper in a plastic bag, as it will trap the odor in tightly. Then place the bag in your bin.
Cloth diapers can be washed in a solution that contains tea tree oil, as it's known for it's antibacterial properties. You can also place a couple of drops of Lavender essential oil on your clean and dry cloth diapers.
In the baby change area, use a plug in scent diffuser to emit a soft and constant odor in this area.
Baby smalls can also tend to linger through a home long after the diaper has been removed. Place a couple of drops of an essential oil of your choice on your carpet and rugs.
~Foot Odors
Smelly feet and shoes have a distinctive odor that can be offensive. Use two drops Tea Tree essential and two drops of Eucalyptus Oil in each shoe. This will disinfect and kill the bacteria in the shoe while at the same time disguising the smell.
Have an area in your home where shoes are kept and place an air freshener or scent diffuser that emits a spray in times intervals in this area.
~Pet Odors
Some breeds of dogs tend to have a scent they emit, for example terriers. Animal odors easily permeate through all their bedding, your furniture and the animal itself. Litter trays are also an area that can quickly become offensive.
Wash all your pet bedding in a solution of Tea Tree and Eucalyptus Essential Oils and make sure you air-dry the fabrics. You can also place a couple of drops in the litter tray before you place the litter and on areas that they rest.
Place an air freshener that can be pressed or a diffuser plug-in also in these areas.
~Cigarette Smoke
Cigarette smoke has the ability to get trapped into all fabrics and furnishings of your home. To eliminate smells, place some potpourri in the ashtray or some essential oils in the ashtray.
Assign an area that is used only for smoking and place a diffuser that emits scent at intervals, or use a plug-in diffuser in the area.
