The amazing race is off and running. Each of the "contestants" is jumping through hoops and spouting rhetoric designed to attract the most voters. The buffoons and backstabbers and wannabes are competing for the highest prize the US has to offer: the US Presidency.
Wow, if this were a TV show, I think I'd be voting a few people off now! I suppose that's what we're doing, only in a different way. We've already culled the herd, and now we're down to a neck and neck race between Sen. Clinton and Sen. Obama on one side and McCain and Huckabee on the other. Oh yeah, there's also Ron Paul. Each of these races will determine who goes on to the "big race". You know, the actual run for the president's seat.
Probably most astounding to me are the endorsements McCain has lined up. I thought we agreed he wasn't a true conservative, and then there goes the likes of Romney jumping ship to join McCain along with former President Bush. Huh? Where did that come from? My only guess is that these powers have decided to jump on the boat before they get left behind. After all, McCain has the Republican nomination all sewed up, right?
Only time will tell if all the endorsements coming his way help McCain to receive the crown, but I wouldn't count Huckabee out yet. He's hanging in there, and at the very least, his breath on McCain's neck will keep him wondering and striving to please those true conservatives who are concerned by his more moderate record.
Obama's campaign seems to be all about rhetoric. A look at his website, http://www.barackobama.com/ with a special peek at the issues section, reveals a bunch of generic pabulum. For example on strengthening civil rights enforcement, it says "Obama will reverse the politicization that has occurred in the Bush Administration's Department of Justice. He will put an end to the ideological litmus tests used to fill positions within the Civil Rights Division." That sounds good, but where's the beef? I want to know HOW he plans to do this. There is a huge list of "Obama will..."s, but very little giving a plan for emplementing his ideas. His mantra of change leaves a great deal to the imagination.
Clinton comes out of the gate swinging and slinging mud all over her opponent. Can't win votes based on her own character and political record, and then make sure your opponent looks even worse than you do. Good luck, Sen. Clinton, Obama never gives anything of real substance for you to slam. Slamming the character of this "I am the American Dream"
