How to get started in Webcomics

So you like reading comic books and you like to draw too. The next thing that get into your mind is, "I want to make a comic!", and with internet its not hard to start your own comic. Its called webcomic, a comic that publish on net.

I have tried couple of times to make my own web comic, so far it end up as a failure. Not a completely failure anyway since I still manage to learn few things from that failure. I have better idea on how to start a good web comic.

Making a web comic is easy. All you have to do is draw a page or two, grabs some web site template, some free web hosting and you have your own web comic. It is so easy that you can find literally thousands of web comic on net. Making web comic is easy but making a good or let's say not so bad web comic which draw hundreds of reader isn't. Good drawing isn't everything unless you draw like pro but that against the idea of how easy it is to have your own web comic. Beside some web comic managed to get readers although the creator are not pro.

My experiment in the past get me no more than couple of readers but the experience give me some idea on how we should start our webcomic, that I would like to share here.

1. Since its on web, we need to have a good web design. It doesn't need to be high tech web with script, php, etc. But it has to be attractive and pleasant for the eyes. Planned its content carefully before launch the webcomic.

2. Instead of making a long story. For a start its better to come up with short one, short enough that you can finish it. Nothing worse than a webcomic that stop updating when the story isn't finished yet. Maybe between 10-20 pages. Better if you can finished the web comic first before put it online. But if you plan to make a comic strip instead one with a plot in it, try to come with more than 20 episodes before you start publishing your webcomic to the internet.

3. Make it in color. A simple clean coloring still better than my old black and white webcomic. Nothing wrong with black and white but unless you're a good artist, webcomic in black and white is not eye catching.

I hope these few ideas could help you start your webcomic.
