The inconveniences of home remodeling can be abundantly reduced with a great contractor. As homeowners, it is our responsibility to hire contractors who finish the job in a timely manner, do not cut corners, and price the job fairly. The sounds of pounding hammers can be stressful enough, without having to worry that you hired the wrong people to work on your home.

Here are some tips for finding a great contractor.

1. Get to "chit-chatting"! Ask your family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers for names of reputable contractors, that they have used in the past. When you phone the contractors mention right away that they were referred to you. The contractors will give you special preference considering that you did not just randomly picking their name from the Yellow Pages.

2. Do your homework! When speaking with a contractor you need to be clear, concise, and address your exact needs. By being precise it makes it is easier for the contractor to give you a tried and true estimate. He will also feel better taking the job if he has a clear-cut accurate understanding of what you are looking for from him.

3. Get everything in writing. Never hire anyone to do work on your home with just a verbal agreement. It is an extremely poor business practice and you would never, ever, want someone to do work on your home without a written agreement. The written agreement should include; a line item list of estimated costs, time frame of the job, a break down of tasks to be completed, and payment schedule for the job.

Finding a contractor that will see a job from start to finish is essential to happy remodeling and a happy home. Search for a contractor the same way you would look for a babysitter for your children. You would never allow someone into your home to babysit your children without the proper credentials, licensing, and a good reputation in your community. Hold your contractor to the same standards; don't allow someone to work on your home without prior knowledge of their credentials, their reputation, and the quality of their workmanship.
