Helium don'ts: How not to write for Helium.com

(For example, this article contains 998 words.)

If a topic warrants an extremely long dissertation, then perhaps the Helium writer would be wise to break it into separate components and post multiple articles on related topics.

The most skilled and knowledgeable writers have the ability to put information into clearly digestable formats for readers to absorb. What readers wouldn't benefit from that?

(NOTE: Most word processing programs offer word counting features. Savvy Helium writers compose off-line and save their copy before posting to Helium.com. Check word counts there!)

DON'T PUBLISH ONE UNENDING PARAGRAPH.

Huge grey blocks of unbroken type are a reader's and rater's nightmare. Why not make life a little easier, and much more interesting, by dividing articles into logical paragraphs?

DON'T POST WITHOUT PROOFREADING.

This seems obvious, but a surprising number of spelling and grammatical errors seem to make their way into published Helium articles. Careful proofreading can eliminate plenty of these.

Of course, occasional typographical errors may creep into publication. If you spot these in your work, you can email Helium for a quick fix (content@helium.com). This wonderful service has saved many a Helium writer from cyber-embarrassment!
