A second marriage is often a more low key event than a first marriage. When you get married for the first time, the bride is often more worried about how perfect she looks that the actual meaning of the occasion.
At a second wedding, you have a more mature outlook. You realize that the wedding ceremony itself is the whole point of the day, and that the things surrounding this aren't so important. For this reason, a second marriage is often a less formal affair that a first.
Second marriages are often held in unusual locations, due to the fact that a divorced person can't get married in church. If your chosen venue lends itself to a theme, such as a historical theme, then this will be the inspiration for your dress.
Of course, there is not reason why you shouldn't choose a traditional wedding dress if you want to. Brides who have been married before usually shun white, but a rich cream is perfectly acceptable. Elegantly cut heavy satin is a good choice, as it has less of a girlish feel than frillier fabrics.
A good choice for a second marriage is a spaghetti strap dress with a lace jacket. This could be in one of a number of colors. Pastel colors obviously work best for a bride. A small headdress is appropriate.
A dress suit in cream damask or pastel pink/blue would also work well. The jacket could be removed at the reception. A simple cut would work best, giving an elegant line and chic look. Accessorize with gold jewelry.
Trouser suits in silk or satin are a good choice. Choose a rich cream accented with navy. This gives quite a casual look to the wedding. Pearl earrings and a pearl necklace would be enough jewelry with trousers.
Many second brides choose hats instead of bridal headdresses. Choose a small one so that your face can be seen in the photographs, and so that your partner doesn't tip it off when you kiss!
Your shoes should match the outfit, but also be comfortable if you are going to wear them throughout the day and into the evening.
You must take your cue from the tone of the wedding plans in general when choosing your dress. Taking note of how formal the arrangements are will help you decide on your outfit. Your age will also help you decide - an older bride just can't wear a frilly dress. If however, you are still young, there is no reason you shouldn't have a traditional fairy-tale wedding.
Whatever you choose, be assured that the fact that you are taking your vows is the most important part of the day, not what you are wearing when you do it.
