The best times for Chelsea, apart from now, was the young side of the late sixties and early seventies under Tommy Doherty. Consistently challenging for the big honors and winning domestic knockout cups, including the memorable 1970 F.A Cup win over Leeds United, they also went on and repeated the feat over the mighty Madrid in the UEFA CUP-Winners Cup in 1971.
Even the most ardent fan will admit that there would be no Premier League titles without Abramovichs billions. Although Ranieri had taken the as far as they could when the Russian arrived they still needed twenty million pound players to close the gap with the big three.
When we say billions with Abramovich we mean billions, not the American thousand millions to a billion but a million millions. The Russian oil and mineral oligarch has 5 million millions, plus interest, and its still growing. Its an unthinkable amount of money, as was the thirty million he paid for Schevchenko.The Russians own this pat of West London now and so why not the football clubs. Roman has yet to covert his 136 million pound first eleven into a Champions League winning side but again this could be the year. I think the purchase of Anelka is the missing ingredient here guys...
