Several of the most wonderful vacation places I go to regularly are in Arkansas. You can find pristine lakes and hiking trail air so clean you may never want to go home.
Take the family anddig for diamonds at Crater of Diamonds State Park at Murfressboro, Arkansas. Spend a day horse back riding, snorkeling, boating or golfing at DeGrey Lake Resort and Park. Queen Wilhelmina Lodge, Arkansas's "Castle in the Clouds," is a place out of time set in the scenery of the surrounding peaceful Ouachita Mountains, delicious food and great trails to explore all at affordable prices with lodge rooms starting at $70. For biking enthusiast the Devil's Den State Park is a must. Tent camping starts at $10 per night, RV camping begins at $27 per night, cabins (fully equipped with even air-conditioning) for an entire family start at $100 per night.

UNUSUAL ECOTOURS OR RESORTS

Stay at fabulous hotel and then take all the ecotours available in some of America's most unspoiled nature sites.

While in Florida bypass the extra day at Disney World for an Everglades Day Safari, average cost $120 per person, family rates available.

When is the American West try the Sierra Club's Clair Tappaan Lodge at the 7,000 ft crest of the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California, rates here start at $46 a night and include meals.

When car touring New England make the White Mountains a must see and do stay at the famous Franconia Inn. You can enjoy nature amid sophisticated food and playtime and the off season t rates are only $128 per night!

If the cowboy trails, mountain vistas and Big Sky Sunsets stir your soul, check out family vacations in Montana at some of the ranches near Yellowstone National Park. I have found $90 per night and family rate packages very affordable.

One last adventure everyone should try once, whitewater river rafting and camping tour. Idaho and Oregon have some of the best at affordable prices!($850 per person for 6 days!)

These vacation ideas are affordable, relaxing and combine getting away from the urban scene so completely that you will want to seek out more nature vacation spots every year. It's a win - win for individuals or families enjoying natural history, conservation and back to the wilderness fun.
