"...that this nation, of the people, for the people and by the people shall never perish from the earth." -Abraham Lincoln
There was a time in this country that the people would vote for someone based upon their beliefs in what was best for the whole country. There was a time when people were not voted into office because they were the best looking candidate, or they were on the correct ticket, but because they loved this country and wanted the best for it's people. Sure there were people who had "special interests", but people voted because it was the right thing to do for this great land in which we live.
Now we have the two major parties: Republican (conservative) and Democrat (liberal). You get raised by your parents to vote a certain way. Your church tells you to vote a certain way. Your spouse tells you to vote a certain way. People have no idea who to vote for, so they don't vote and they are proud of that fact.
"I only regret that I have but one life to give for my country..." - Nathan Hale
"Walk softly and carry a big stick" - Teddy Roosevelt
"I have a dream...." - Martian Luther King, Jr.
People gave their lives for our freedom. People fought and died to protect our rights, yet, some people take this so much for granted that they don't vote. Shame on them. People threw stones at the black people as they went to register to vote for the first time. They shot off their bullets over their heads and threatened them with death, still they went in to register. People gave their lives to change the nation for the better and yet some refuse to vote...
Who do we vote for this time? If we vote democrat, we have the potential of two firsts: A black man or a woman as president. History making right here, right now. If we vote Republican, we have the choice of some people who like to hear themselves talk and perhaps would do what is best for this land of ours.
I heard that the KKK was backing Obama. Now that is something to go into the history books. Founded by the Democrats, is it "worse" for them to vote for a black man or go Republican. I for one am laughing at them yet again.
Who ever you choose to vote for this fall. Thank God that you have the freedom and the privilege to vote. God Bless America!
