Is peace on Earth realistically attainable?

Is peace on Earth realistically attainable?

"As Miss Universe, what would you like to see accomplished?"
"Uhm, Peace on Earth, World hunger abolished ..."

Right! Let us look at some hard numbers:

6,679,493,900 people populate the earth. They live in over 194 Countries world wide. This number does not include the inhabitants of Puerto Rico, Palestine and even Northern Ireland. These countries are governed by other nations who do count.

There are over 22 Major religions on Earth, with each Major religion branching into sub-categories of even more. Christianity is the religion with most branches, about 18 separate forms of Christianity.

With these numbers in mind, is peace on earth realistically attainable?
This author does not see peace on earth' as ever being a reality. There is too much diversity among us. There are too many passions and emotions battling within us. There are too many conflicts that we will never agree upon.

People are ultimately human. And as such they can never accomplish true inner-peace. From good-natured debates among a diverse group of peers to spanning the divide inside the United Nations, we are all fallible.

Wars are a terrible solution to our issues with one another yet, they are the only answer we ultimately have. We can ask our best representatives to sit down to peace talks' with the other side, knowing full well that most of these talks' are more arguing and will get us nowhere as our differences will always define us.

Wars have been a part of our world history since our earliest days on Earth. The French Wars of Religion, The Crusades and The Reconquista are the most cited of these types of wars. But there were also many wars that did not have anything to do with religious ideals that religion played a part of nonetheless.

A priest blessing a naval battle ship and destroying an enemy's temple to cause low moral are some examples of religion in war time. Because of human fallibility, we use what we know to cause the most pain.

Warring Nations across the globe have very specific reasons for their fighting:
Land issues are amongst the highest of these reasons. One country has been the ruling nation to an area where the people and their ideals are not those of their hosting nation. These people want their independence and want to be self-governed. Every land with borders deserves this [highly perceived] right of self-government.

Battles both large and small continue all over the globe with no end in sight. Our differences define us as both individuals and belonging to a group in brotherhood. We are each proud of our differences and of our ideals. One may win over a few to their side' but never enough to convert the world.

Peace on Earth is just not a possibility as long as people are her inhabitants.
