Parents and teachers are always on the lookout for ways to enhance their child's education. The internet offers a large variety of free interactive activities that can be played online or downloaded onto a computer. These are perfect for adding a little fun to even the most challenging subjects.
Funschool (http://funschool.kaboose.com) is a bright and cheerful site with a collection of online activities that will engage and motivate your student. Sebran (http://www.wartoft.nu/softwar e/sebran) is a free downloadable program that includes several educational activities for students learning to count, read, and use higher functions like matching and speed challenges. This is great for preschool to third grade students. The graphics are bright and use an icon like style that will appeal to just about every learner. One of the greatest features is that it has been translated into many different languages including Spanish, German, Czech, Greek, Romanian, and Portuguese. You may want to consider using this to enhance a child's foreign language lessons.
Primary Games (http://www.primarygames.com) is a bright and cheerful site easily navigated by students, parents, and teachers. They offer activities on subjects such as Language Arts, Science, Math, and Social Studies. They also have sections such as Puzzles and Arcade that challenge students on a broader subject basis. Their Postcard and Print Zone add even more fun.
UpToTen.com (http://www.uptoten.com) uses fun characters to guide students through educational games and activities that include Coloring, Games, Animated Cards, and more. The games section includes age appropriate activities for six through ten year olds. Unlike most sites, their categories include Coordination games, Races, and Mixed Activities.
Educational Freeware (http://www.educational-freewa re.com) is a listing site of many different free games that can be downloaded and used on your own computer. They also include links to many other websites that supply educational games online. By searching the internet for "Free Educational Games" you will discover that there are many more sites and developers eager to increase the education of all students. You may also want to search for "Educational Freeware." Freeware programs are distributed for free to the public. Some of the developers and creators allow their programs to be installed on multiple computers while others restrict the download to personal use. Please check their terms. A third rout is to search for "Educational Shareware." Shareware games are games that can be enjoyed for a small fee, usually around ten dollars. Many of these allow you to download them as a trial before purchasing them.
