How to buy NASCAR tickets

Buying NASCAR tickets can be as easy, or as difficult as you want. Don't start by focusing on cheap tickets, and limiting yourself to only buying cheap tickets. You'll end up spending far too much time looking for that elusive deal, and miss out on the race entirely.

Start by deciding on the track that you want to see firsthand, and visit their website directly. You never know when you're going to find cheaper tickets simply by buying directly from the track's website. Remember too that many of the tracks have tickets available right up until the day of the race, especially with the bigger tracks. Just make sure to pay attention to where your seats are.

Last year some friends and I had the "brilliant" idea of seeing the Brickyard 400 firsthand. After spending some time navigating their site, we decided to grab the cheapest seats available, for $35 a ticket. We ended up sitting directly in the infield, and could only see the race from when the cars entered turn 1, and left turn 2. No matter what we could see, it was definitely worth it. After all, we were at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway watching the Brickyard 400 right in front of us.

Other sites do not use their own ordering system, but partner with Ticket Master. Lowe's Motor Speedway is one such track. This can be a slight pain as they charge a processing fee. Those $30-50 tickets only seem like a great deal until you end up paying an extra $20 per ticket.

You can always find NASCAR tickets through a travel agency too, but only if you need hotel accommodations or travel arrangements made for you. You can expect to pay about $500 or more depending on where the track is, and the package you buy.

If Bristol is where you have your heart set on visiting, you can forget about buying from the track. There are certain tracks that routinely sell out long before the race and Bristol is one of them. Calling a ticket broker is almost your only option, and tickets will easily run $200-300 each.

If you're devoted to finding cheap NASCAR tickets, and you're willing to wait until a few weeks before the race then you can try hitting ebay and looking at classified ads. As the race approaches, ticket brokers will need to sell their tickets as soon as possible before they get stuck with them. Last year I snagged two tickets to the August Michigan race for less than $30 each, but only because I waited until the week before the race. You need to be careful though, as you might find yourself without any tickets, especially if it is a popular one.

When it comes to finding NASCAR tickets, your best bet is to start by visiting the track's website.
