How to unlock your innate potential

HOW TO UNLOCK YOUR INNATE POTENTIAL.

We often hear people make comments about others such as, "He's just not living up to his potential." People sometimes make these comments without looking at the whole picture. There are usually reasons why a person isn't living up to higher standards. The main reasons are that even though everyone has potential, it can be very difficult to tap into; and, most people do not even realize that they have it. They go through life thinking that they are hopelessly trapped in unfulfilling jobs or unhappy relationships because they are convinced that they can't do any better. Therefore, the most important step in unlocking potential is in realizing that it is there. This can be accomplished through a series of steps.

First, start a practice of taking daily quiet time to explore your personal characteristics. Of course, there are going to be some that are less desirable than others, but make every effort to focus only on the positive ones. There will be many more than you think. Ask yourself questions such as: Am I intelligent? Do I possess skills that not everyone possesses? Am I a good listener? Am I a loyal friend? Do I enjoy helping others? Am I compassionate? These are just a few examples, but the point is to ask questions that will prompt you to think of your good traits. Be extremely careful not to downplay these traits and remember that it is not arrogant or conceited to feel good about who you are. Humility is wonderful trait, but not acknowledging the good things about yourself is not humility. Not boasting to others about them is humility.

The next step is to allow yourself to see that you are the only YOU that exists. There is no one else in the world that has the same set of traits that you have. You are unique and special, one of a kind. Begin spending time focusing on these positive traits that you have identified. Your potential lives in these positive characteristics, and it cannot be unlocked until it is acknowledged.

After this time of self-examination, armed with the knowledge of your good traits, start dreaming about what you would like to change about your life. No dream is too small or too large. Where before, you wouldn't have dreamed of a better life for yourself, start now to think of ways to achieve that life. The door to your potential is opening.

The dead-end job that you felt trapped in now feels more like a steppingstone to a better one because you are beginning to understand what you are capable of. For example, you thought of your job as boring and non-fulfilling, but now you can see that the skills you are currently learning can open up new and better employment opportunities in the future.

Maybe your current relationship is uncomfortable, not what you hoped that it would be, but you have not had the courage to walk away and leave it behind. However, now you know that you are a unique person with a variety of wonderful traits and that you don't have to settle for anything less than your dream. You have the understanding that these traits make you a person with the potential to find a good relationship.

There are many areas in your life where you are realizing that you do not have to settle for anything less than your dreams. You are realizing this because you understand now that you are a worthwhile person who deserves to have a wonderful life, and that you have what it takes to get that life.
