The treatment of bipolar disorder is often considered a controversial subject, as the medical diagnosis of bipolar seems to be overly diagnosed and overly treated. It is also understudied with incorrect prescribed medications. Surveys and research groups are showing that large numbers of medical communities are recently debating on the prevalence of ADHD and bipolar disorders. Considered a mood disorder, about one-fourth of individuals with bipolar disorder will commit suicide without proper medical treatment.
My brother has had bipolar and major chronic depression since he was a teenager. Now he is 59 years of age, and he still has bipolar disorder and major chronic depression. With a long history of three mental hospitals, a line of physicians and psychiatrists, years of ECTs or electrical shot treatments, counselors, and whoever else has a "new med to try out on him" has made his life a living hell-and the treatments are still changing and still not working.

They could go without sleep for days on end, making grandiose plans that were totally unrealistic, yet creativity levels were on extreme highs with some of the best work of the century coming out of these phases of mania and bipolar disorder. It was found not to be a problem unless these mood swings "swung" out of control and they would lose touch with reality.
Emil Krapelin in 1913 established an approach to mental illness, which became the early 1930 prevailing theory. He theorized the term "manic-depressive" from an exhaustive study that involved the effects of depression, in addition to a small portion of the manic states. It was not until 1952 when it was revealed that manic-depression ran in families already diagnosed with the same
