Potential earnings from writing a novel

Potential earnings from novel writing are wide and varied. It will be dependent upon a number of factors. Fiction and non-fiction works have different pay scales. In the short term non-fiction work can produce more income, especially if, as a result of a synopsis, it has been commissioned.

With fiction, unless you are a known author, the initial income or advance, is likely to be low, usually less than 5,000. The more popular the writing becomes, the more royalties (commission) you will earn. Usually, the royalty position is between 5 and 8%. In exceptional cases this might be higher. Only if your work proves to be constantly popular will the size of the advance increase.

In the end it all comes down to effort and persistence. The more quality you write and submit, the better your chances of achieving success. The more success you attract the more you will earn
