How many times have you perused the pages of a fashion magazine looking for the perfect hairstyle? Almost every woman has done it and for good reason... celebrities have great hair! But what's the common woman to do? Can we possibly look as good as someone with a full-time stylist and enough money to buy all the best hair products available? The answer is yes!
HAIR TYPE
The first step in choosing a celebrity style is to take a good, long look at your own hair. What is its natural texture and thickness? If you aren't sure, have a friend help you decide. Better yet, ask your stylist.
The texture of your hair will be your guide when choosing a style. It's always best to work with what nature has given you. If your hair is thick and curly, you'll have a hard time styling your hair like Gwyneth Paltrow. If your hair is fine and stick straight, a style like Sarah Jessica Parker's will be nearly impossible to achieve. It's fine to experiment with different looks but if you try to make your hair something it isn't, you're going to spend a lot of time maintaining the look. Think about whether you really want to spend an hour each morning flat-ironing your hair or forcing curls where they don't naturally exist.
FACE SHAPE
The next thing to look at is your face shape. Do you have a round face like Kate Winslet, a square jaw like Demi Moore, chiseled features like Linda Evangelista, an oval face like Cameron Diaz? Facial shape is an important factor when deciding which style suits you best.
Long, straight styles make long, thin faces look even longer. On the other hand, a very round face is best complimented by a style that has some fullness on top. Before deciding you like a certain celebrity's hairstyle, look at her face shape. If hers is very different from yours, you'll probably be better of with a different hairstyle as well.
Here are some common face shapes and the types of styles that work best with them:
Oval - This is the easiest shape to work with. Any style is flattering. From short to long to inbetween, choose whichever style suits you most.
Round - Styles without bangs and with some fullness on top are ideal. This will help make your face appear slimmer.
Rectangular/oblong - Short or medium hair with bangs are best. Avoid long hair which just accentuates the length of your face.
Square - Short and medium length hairstyles are best for a square face. Stay away from long hair and opt for a style with some wave or soft layering to soften the angles of your face.
