For those who think that Bipolar Disorder is just an excuse, take a closer look! It is true that some people may get mis-diagnosed and some may purely have a drug addiction, but do your research, take notice of how the person is acting and if in doubt get a medical opinion. In some cases a disorder may be the underlying problem behind the poor school work, the inability to keep a job, or those poor or strained interpersonal relationships.
Bipolar is life threatening and DOES need to be kept under control with medication. It is often not recognized as an illness as many view it as an excuse to get away with bad behavior. Unfortunately as a result, the Manic and Depressive Episodes will only worsen until diagnosed.
Bipolar Disorder is not an excuse! If someone you know is diagnosed, treat it as a real illness and be supportive. It takes a strong person to do this as Bipolar Disorder can be very difficult to deal with at the best of times. But with the proper medication and the love and support from family and friends it IS possible for the person to lead a normal, happy, balanced life.
