Finding your family roots in Ellis Island

- Lastly, "To error is human" and their will be errors in the documentation. True story...Two of my great aunts came to visit my grandfather after he immigrated, and they came through Ellis Island, so they are documented. One of my great aunts is listed as a male. Keep this in mind when looking for pertinent information for cross-referencing. If all else makes sense it might the right person.

Though genealogy can be tedious and time consuming, the rewards can be fun and invigorating. From the Ellis Island records, I discovered the following about my own family.

- It was always thought we were Swiss. We are all fair complicated and light colored hair, so it makes sense. I found out through Ellis Island records we are Italian...now everyone knows why I talk with my hands.

- We always knew my great-grandfather collaborated with Thomas Edison. Through Ellis Island research, I discovered my great-grandfather was present at the historical World's Fair event in St. Louis.

- I never knew my great grandmother's name until I found her name listed on my great aunt's manifest as her closest relative.

So, you can see the family tidbits that can be informational through Ellis Island research. If you stick with it, you might find out some really cool stuff. Have fun!
