The worldwide success of Ugg boots is somewhat of a phenomenon. The small, Australian Ugg company started off producing comfortable, sheepskin boots, for the Australian market alone, based on the styles used there for centuries by people working in the outback. The name "Ugg" is actually derived from the term "ugly boot", as the original boots were more functional than attractive. Now however, they provide boots in thousands of styles, and also shoes and sandals, to places all over the globe, and are one of the world's most successful clothing companies. Everyone, everywhere wants their own Ugg boots, so where is the best place to start looking for a genuine pair at a reasonable price?
One has to say here, that by British standards, Ugg boots are not particularly expensive. With starting prices from about 62.00 ($120) they are actually cheaper than a lot of boots on sale in the High Street, and much more hard-wearing than most. However, everyone likes a bargain, so it is always interesting to look around and see where you can buy those boots at even cheaper prices.
The first and most obvious place to look for bargains is in the High Street sales, especially the January ones, when stores are clearing out their Winter stock to replace it with Summer clothes and sandals. John Lewis have a wonderful sale of "Clearance Bargains" starting on Boxing Day, with their famous slogan of "never knowingly undersold". So if you find the same items elsewhere selling for less than you can see them in John Lewis, they will refund the difference in price to you, with no questions asked. Renowned for it's quality and standards of service, John Lewis is a wonderful place to start your seacrh for your discounted Ugg boots.
Other department stores offering Ugg boots, are Debenhans, and House of Fraser. Again, watch out for the seasonal sales, such as Debenham's famous half-price "Blue Cross" sale, where everything is sold at half price. These are excellent places to find your boots, especially if you are an unusual size, as very small or very large sizes are often found in the sales whilst average sizes are already sold.
Of course, one should not forget the specialist shoe shops in your trip down the High Street. Places with good, old fashioned High Street names like Freeman, Hardy and Willis, Stead and Simpson, Lilley and Skinner and Shoe Express, have been specialising in shoes and boots for years, and their expertise should not be ignored.
