We said goodbye to him on an autumn day,
The cold rain masking our tears.

A testimony to his wartime years.

In an effort to assuage the pain.
A sea of black umbrellas surrounding us
Shedding drops of cold November rain.

After 60 years, the better part of her life?
A marriage bond, strong and true,
Combatting obstacles, hardships, and strife.
The despair and years of pain

Finally giving up the fight.
Now she reamains, alone.
Tenderly gathering each shattered shard
Trying to rejoin them with trembling hand.
Survival shouldn't be this hard.
