Music's influence on behavior

From the words of a song which sings "Music makes the world go round..." undoubtedly supports the idea that indeed, music has a great deal of influence on behavior. Great leaders, great educators, and great promoters have all utilized the power of music to modify human behavior.

MUSIC AND POLITICS:
History speaks for itself when notorious dictator, Adolph Hitler banned the listening of swing music for young people in Germany, pushed it underground and used military nationalistic types of music to rally patriotism and instill loyalty among his followers. Such music was piped into schools to listen to each morning, after his morning address and was used to exercise children in courtyards as he trained their bodies for his elite generation of super young adults.

Of course, his SS also knew the influence of music, as they kidnapped and killed in the covert darkness, and emerge in the daytime as family men very much into the culture of refined music. After all, how could wholesome family men who loved to bask in the beauty of music possibly be the cold killers that they were?

Musicians in concentration camps survived because they were needed to play music for the Nazi generals. After a day of genocide, music was needed to soothe their souls.

On the other side of the world, Mao also knew the influence of music on his country. With the spread of Communism, all cultured artisans were thrown into prison. Their music served to evoke sentiment, emotions, and memories of an imperial life. This had to be erased, to be replaced by marches and heraldic music, so that millions of people would be subordinated to the comrade way of life.

MUSIC AND EDUCATION
Great educators like Dr. Shinichi Suzuki ( died 1998) began his educational movement in the belief that through rote learning, young children could learn how to play an instrument by the time they could hold an instrument in their hand. Since Japan is a conformist type of society, it worked well as children learned to "look, listen, imitate" their way to being almost child prodigies. They began listening to music while in the womb, and this constant bombardment of their environment with music became their life.

A great Hungarian music educator by the name of Zoltan Kodaly (1881-1967)decided that "music belongs to everyone and is necessary for healthy human development". He went about teaching women and children how to sing, making it a part of their every day life and as a result, some children have even developed perfect pitch because
