associated with bad memories of situations, for example if you had all the attention on you and you made a mistake, like having given a speech and made a mess of it.
Various therapies exist for treatment of this phobia if you think you have it but you may be able to get over it yourself. Next time an opportunity arises and you hang back try and think clearly about what feelings are rising up to stop you and where they are coming from. Once you identify a problem, it becomes much easier to solve.
MAINTAIN
Many people hold a cliched image of the achiever as over stressed and over worked, surviving late nights on coffee, cigarettes and take away.
Whilst late nights will certainly crop up now and again in any situation where you are setting out to push your achievements you simply won't make the distance if you're not as healthy as possible. You need to eat well, sleep well and be as relaxed and happy as possible.
The way to do this is to educate yourself on health, food and exercise. Don't do this by seeking out an expensive pill to take or buying into the latest fad diet. Do research, talk to friends, remember that taking an active interest in maintaining your health is as important in terms of attitude as it is in terms of the physical benefits.
Exercise is different for different people, try out different sports and practices until you find something you can fit into your lifestyle and that makes you feel good. Keep it regular to improve moods, energy levels and your immune system.
Relationships.
Many people struggle under the burden of one sided relationships or unfair expectations from friends, a partner or family. They often feel like they don't deserve more than what they're getting or they think that they can help the person leaning on them. Whilst there is give and take in all relationships and we all need our loved ones when we go through rough times there are levels. Sit down and analyse the time you spend with various people, think how you feel when you see them and whether you enjoy the activities you usually pursue together.
You may be surprised that a very undemanding and supportive friend who always makes you feel great gets very little of your time and someone who is aggressive or demanding and always brings you down is taking up a lot of it! As much as it can be hard to hear, that needs to be fixed, it might not only be a problem with the specific individual but a general trend in allowing yourself to be unfairly imposed upon.
Get to the bottom of why you are in the situation and find ways to readdress the balance in your life. Although it can be hard at first when you reshuffle your social life you sometimes find that people you thought you would miss you actually feel better seeing less of.
Overall you need to make it an aim to be happy. When we are under pressure hormones are released by our bodies to counter the effects of stress. Whilst this is a natural enough process chronic stress and resulting high levels of hormones such as Cortisol (often referred to as "The Stress Hormone") are very bad for health and can negatively affect your immune system, bone metabolism, blood pressure and even your memory! So forget the image of the stressed professional breathlessly running through the tube with a mobile phone strapped to each ear, the healthier and happier you are the more productive and powerful you have the potential to be.
Always look for new ways to improve yourself and your life, take small steps and build on them all the time. Success is a way of thinking to begin with but before you know it, success will be a way of life.
