The quest for truth and the meaning of life

A Purpose in Life

If either looking after our physical welfare or devoting ourselves to the pursuit of pleasure fails to satisfy us, how are we to attain the mental condition we envisage? Peace of mind is achieved only when a man or woman develops the understanding that enables him or her to relate to the Cosmos in a meaningful way and find for themselves some satisfactory role to play in the great scheme of things.

When men and women compare their insignificant stature with the vastness of space and time they are overawed and desire to see some purpose in their own existence. Each individual must answer for himself or herself the question, 'what is my purpose in life?' If he or she can convince themselves that their life serves some purpose in the lives of those around them, their sense of futility and worthlessness will be banished, and they will know that in fulfilling their purpose they have the surest guarantee of the greatest possible peace of mind.

Amid the buffeting of life's storms they will stand unshaken because their philosophy of life will be founded on an understanding that has an affinity with the intelligence of the Cosmos. It is important to remember that as insignificant as we may appear to be, without Beings like us in a state of conscious awareness, the Cosmos would seem to have no purpose whatsoever.

A person of such conscious awareness will know that they cannot achieve happiness and peace of mind by seeking them directly. Their peace of mind will come as a by-product of their meaningful activity in relation to the world around them. One is not a happy person as a result of seeking happiness exclusively for him or herself but rather they are happy as a result of being busy doing something they think is worthwhile and will make others happy. By losing oneself in that which they believe to be more important than the selfish acquisition of material things, they unknowingly will be filled with the joy, happiness and peace of mind they so desire.

Happiness is the fruit of the tree of life. It is the needle in the compass that tells you that you are on track and 'on purpose' in your journey through life. True happiness is inner joy, that deep and genuine joy which lasts forever. It comes from being in resonance with your inner purpose, with your inner self.

Your inner self is your soul, the part of you which lives forever, the part of you that is always there to help, guide and protect you. Within this inner soul burns the flame which connects you to the entire cosmos of Creation. It is your connection to
Infinite Being, to the All That Is.

In this heart of your spiritual connection lies a wonderful essence. This is the essence of spirituality and joyful living. As your conscious connection with this essence grows, so does your level of happiness. A connected life is a purposeful and rewarding life. It is one where you spend your efforts exploring the exact situations that you came here on Earth to experience. With love and wisdom, you transform these situations into lasting success.

Through life, you experience the endless variety of Creation. Through life, you travel back to that source from which you came. Through life, you discover the inner flame which is the key to eternal joy and happiness.
