Never give up: How to keep your dreams alive

Do you feel like you've been knocked down one too many times? Or perhaps you feel if one more event comes along you just can't face it. Pushing yourself in the face of adversity is something many seem to do well. Others give up. But when is giving up, really giving up?

Finding another avenue, creating opportunity from adversity, giving yourself a reason to get out of bed everyday is something anyone can do. In fact, many do it without even knowing. Successful people almost always give the same advice. Keep trying, don't listen to anyone who say it will never work. If you believe in something and work towards it, it will happen.

That's all well and good unless you are at the bottom of the pile struggling to be heard. So how do you keep your dreams alive? For one thing, expect the bad or unfortunate times. They will come in one way or another. Set yourself up a reasonable set of stepping stones to achieve. Slow and steady wins the race. Many times when things are rushed into the crash seems so much worse when it comes. But there is no better way to learn a lesson.

But if life bites you hard, you might think about throwing your dream away. You might even have a day where you are convinced it's all too much. Life would be so much simpler if you just gave up. To be honest it's actually quite hard to let go of a dream. It's probably harder to walk away than it is to try again. Because time and energy has been invested in it, nobody wants to admit defeat. Because they have to admit they are wrong. So bearing that in mind, even through the worst times it is a natural reaction to give it one more go. All you need to do is take a deep breath and allow yourself to do so.

That is what it comes back too, every time. Giving yourself permission have another go, try something different and learn from your mistakes. After all failing is not when you get knocked down. You have only failed if you never get up again. One of the best ways to keep striving for your dreams is to think of other people who are worse off than you. If you break your leg think of the person with no leg. If you lose a parent think of the person who lost a child. Count your blessings and use that to help you regain your confidence.

You need to get a really hard shell as well. There is always plenty of people who will want you to give up. It makes them feel better about their own failures if you give up to. Some people are just not programmed to think anything will work. One of the best tools you can have for your own success is to keep your ideas to yourself as much as possible. After all, it makes absolutely no difference what anyone else thinks, it only matters what you know and feel. Seek advice from those who have gone before you. Find a mentor who can give you practical advice on how they succeeded.

No one else has the right to tell you your ideas won't work. If they do, use that to make your resolve stronger. Some of the best research can be had here as well. If they say it will never work ask them why. Take note of their concerns and see if you can answer those to make your idea stronger and more workable. Learn what you need to learn to get you there and always keep an eye out for a niche you can fill. Being realistic and adjusting to suit needs is the best way to succeed. And don't always put all your eggs in one basket. Nobody said you could only have one dream or one way to achieve a dream.

Adjust, adapt and advance.
