I have an intrepid group of friends; ready every April to give, unflinchingly, I might add, humility to the pranksters out there that inflict their odd humor upon innocents throughout the year. The ingenious things they've done, should honestly be the whole content of a website somewhere, some of it may have even been translated into urban myth. Oh, where to begin?
One year, at three in the morning, my friends decided to let the biggest prankster in town have a little of his own medicine. They slinked around the outside of his home, like common burglars, taping black garbage bags to the outside of every one of the windows in his house. He was livid, after finally figuring out that the sun did come up that day, asking around town all day about possible suspects. No one ever turned them in. Later, they pretended to hear about his ordeal, only to bring him beautiful chocolate cupcakes, which were, I am sad to say, baked with extra-large cotton balls in the center. Luckily they left them on his door step anonymously, accompanied by a beautiful handmade card. Do you know, it is always the most awful prankster that everyone knows, that cannot take a joke?
I have, however, saved my favorite for last. It involves them, before I knew them, but it is the stuff of legend. It involves a man I'll call Paul'. (It rhymed with call.) Anyway, He was also a practical joker, wreaking havoc on innocents everywhere. So, as his room mates, they were given unrestricted access to play out their revenge. It started, ironically enough, in the middle of the night. At three in the morning, his alarm went off, though his clock, told him that it was six. Every clock in the apartment had been reset to six thirty, except for his.
He got up, having gone to bed at one, and couldn't figure out why he was so tired. They were all up, cooking breakfast, dressed for work, and wondering why he was so late. Paul' raced back into his room, looked at his clock, thinking it had somehow fallen behind, started sprinting around like an idiot trying to get ready. He was late, very late. The thing that made it even better, was that he commonly set his clock an hour ahead, to fool himself! He was screaming, hurrying around, half dressed, and thinking he was so much later than he was. He got into his car, which also had been given a visit by the infamous time changing room mate, and drove all the way to work, secretly wondering why it was so dark outside. He arrived at 3:40 in the morning, greeted by the company's large luminescent clock, clicking away the time, and temperature at different intervals. When he had at last arrived back home, everyone was sound asleep. They may have left him a note, I am not sure.
I believe now they are in that battle that no one wishes to enter into, the lets see who can give who's kid the more annoying noise-making toys battle. That, is a whole other story.. Ummm.back on track.
So, hale to my friends, the April Fools funniest prank-players. (At least, they always shall be to me.)
