If Barry Bonds gets convicted for lying under oath about knowingly using steroids, then it should be jail time. Special treatment should not be given to anyone regardless of celebrity status. At this moment in time, there does not seem to be a charge that is going to be able to stick without crucial evidence to prove a point that Barry Bonds knew he took steroids. Now, he did admit to taking The Clear and the Crme, which he said he didn't know it was a steroid.
Remember that Bonds testified in court but it did seem that there was actually some very odd timing in terms of actually getting him convicted. The minute the Home Run record was broken, it would seem that it would be time to go after him but the question is concerning about it succeeding in the first place. It has become that of a witch hunt in recent events. There has been no concrete evidence and has been instead nothing but just pure speculation being used as evidence.
To put in this perspective, if a person not a celebrity lied under oath, would they not go to jail or it would be simply fines? If it ended up happening in that respect, it would be a major problem considering that it would be the celebrities getting the special treatment getting picked as people above the law. That would be the big deal on there and Barry Bonds should be no exception.
In regards to Barry Bonds, this is a man who right now has been considered the most hated man in the media as he does not want to be involved with them and seems to hate them with a passion. The feeling is actually mutual and it has always seemed like a hated person.
His career is pretty much over and even if he is found not guilty, which is likely because the Federal Government doesn't have much of a case at all, it will not stop anyone from claiming he knew about it being a steroid.
Right now, it is a mystery as to when the trial will finally happen because it is getting rather ridiculous waiting on it. If indeed he does get convicted, there should be some jail time. The way it should be looked at, if you do the crime, you do the time. Jail time should be given to anyone who lies under oath and that is how it should be done.
Barry Bonds will never be able to recover regardless but he should be convicted like any other person that commit's the same crime. Jail time would be the proper message to send in the sense of no matter if you are a major star or not, you will get punished and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
