Testimonies: Cats that behave like dogs

I've always been a cat person. Not that I don't like dogs. In fact, I think they're great if they're someone else's! My theory on the matter is due to the following:

Cats are like adults. They are independent yet capable of giving love when the feeling arises. If you forget to buy them a can of cat food at the supermarket, they'll just go out and get themselves a meal, with little more than a grumble. Sometimes, if you're well unlucky, they will even bring back extras for you! How considerate of them!

Dogs: on the other hand, are like children. And if you are not prepared to have a child, as I most certainly am not, this can prove to be a problem. Dogs can be compared to young toddlers. Extremely cute, but always demanding that you take them for a walk. And the food factor? Forget about it! They want to eat everything YOU are eating and no less.

For my lifestyle, it was always more convenient to have cats. That was until my current cat, Baby, came into my life. He's really thrown a spanner in the works.

Baby, you see, thinks he's a dog.

I guess the best word to describe him is "needy". I've never had a cat before which was so persistent in following me around. When I arrive home from anywhere, he will be at the door waiting for me. By the time I walk into my room, he will already have jumped up onto my couch waiting to receive my pats. When I'm ironing, cooking, washing the clothes, going to the bathroom even he is there at my feet looking at me, eagerly.

He's not shy to use his vocals either or any other part of his body that makes noise. Oh no! At 6:00am in the morning, like clockwork, he'll be there at the window scratching his long and nasty nails down the window pane, creating the probably most loathed sound in the entire world. Baby, of course, is well aware of the affect the screeching has on human ears. Likewise, at 11:00pm, when the lights go off and I am drifting peacefully into the world of sleep, the same will happen. And so I often find myself, exasperated, crying, "what do you WANT from me!?" But of course, I know the answer.

Attention.

Like any DOG would.

Because he thinks he's a dog.

Another doggy like thing he does is roll onto his stomach to receive belly rubs. How many cats do you know which would lower themselves to such a common level? Baby also chases cats as keenly as any K9 I've ever met, but I guess this could be considered on the borders of feline territory protection, so perhaps it doesn't really count.

Maybe it's a natural part of evolution, that cats are becoming more like dogs. Maybe dogs are also becoming more like cats and I'm simply not aware of this because of my lack of doggy owning experience.

I guess if I'm being really honest with myself, the likeliest explanation as to why my cat acts like an attention-seeking dog, is because I give him too much of it!

Well, if I look on the bright side, I'm getting the best of both cat and doggy world. I guess there's is nothing left to do but to succumb to his many manipulations!
