What does "home" mean to you?

Home is my refuge. My world away from the world. A warm safe place that I can call my own. A place of familiarity. I like the feeling when I get up in the middle of the night and its all dark and I cannot see anything but I know exactly where everything is. It brings this great sense of peace.

I'm the type of person that doesn't like a lot of change around my house. I tend to maintain my furniture in the same places year after year. I like everything to have a place and for it to stay in that place. That gives me security.

Home is the place where I raise my family and I try to fill it with only love. I take pride in it. I enjoy cleaning it and filling it with mementos and things that mean something to me.

I like it to be warm, too. I keep my heat at a nice seventy degree's and then I drop it to sixty at night. Somehow the feeling of the body being warm will also warm the soul and makes the house seem homey.

I also like to have potpourri around. Smell is a powerful thing for us. A smell can remind us of our childhoods and our parents. So I do like my house to smell good at all times. Especially my bedroom. I enjoy sinking down into my nice crisp sheet and smelling something that brings a memory to mind. That can aid in the feeling of peace.

I also probably have way too many photos on the wall but to me they give it a home feeling. I like pictures of my baby girl and my family to dominate my walls over any artwork. I also like to have my afghans laid around which were made in love by both my mother and me. I love a wide variety of throw pillows that can be laid on the floor and languished on.

I guess home is just a true place of refuge for me. Its my little world away from the world. Its a place where I feel safe and secure. A place that is peaceful and warm and feels safe. I like to sometimes not leave the house for two days or so. I take enjoyment in my home. I enjoy being here and taking care of it and making it a home for my children and husband.

Home is truly where the heart is so we need to take pride in it. We need to fill it with things that matter to us. And that doesn't mean pricey treasures but just small things that matter only to us and our family.
