For a country gal like myself, a western wedding is a dream!
But, as with any wedding, there are several factors to consider, and much preparation to endure. A theme wedding, such as a "western" wedding, can be a lot of fun to plan! It is a challenge to stay within the theme for as many aspects as possible. Here are a few ideas:
1. Location. This depends on time of year. I suggest an outdoor wedding, or even a barn if there is a nearby barn to use. And while the barn should be clean, do not get me wrong, an actual, real live barn is best. ( I would not recommend a cow barn- have you smelled those cows?) Autumn is a great time of year. The air is crisp and fresh, and if you are in a northern state or area, you may have a beautiful array of changing leaves!
2. Food. Well, barbecue! What else! Use an open hay wagon to act as the buffet. Have some griller's on hand and BBQ some ribs and/or chicken. The smell of the food cooking as well as the sizzle and pop coming from the grill adds to the whole ambiance. Serve cornbread and baked beans as side dishes. If you don't have a "wagon" to set up as the buffet, decorate a table to serve as such. Cowboy boots, hats, lasso's, and horseshoes are all great decoration ideas!
3. Attire. Dress can be many different options. I think what matters most, is that is comfortable enough that you can do the "Boot Scoot Boogie"! And DO NOT forget the cowboy hat and boots. That goes for Bride AND Groom! Invite guests to come dressed in their own western attire. Jeans, button down shirts, large belt buckles all help with the desired affect. Have your "entertainer" offer gifts for those who dressed up, or if most everyone did, offer gifts for "best dressed couple" or "most original western wear".
4. Entertainment. A live country band would really be great. With a spectacular fiddle player, of course. Or an awesome D.J. with a focus on country music for some real live country dancing. If line dancing is not well known in your family/friend circles, hire someone to give some lessons early in the night. A barn dance would be spectacular, or at least a faux wooden floor can be assembled. Line dancing isn't dancing without the foot stompin'! Square dancing is also a western favorite. Try to add some of both!
5. Flowers. Keep it simple. Best option would be wildflowers. Roses just don't seem right, but I think they would be okay. My pick= Daisies.
6. Invites. Again, keep it simple.
