Poetry: Humanity

by Jacinta Hall

Created on: February 15, 2008

As you walk through
See the strained faces
See the lines and wrinkles
See their haunted places

Slow down a pace
Notice the water splashing
Tracks of slime run on their face
Wonder how it will end

The crawling maggots of hate
The vile fruits of youth
Blending into a putrid mass
A cauldron of untruth

Walk a little faster
Try to pass it by
Wish you were a horse
With blinkers to your eye

Unable to step back
Can't keep stepping forward
Careering vertically off track
Senses getting boiled

Stepping over bodies
Fragile remains skeletal
The awkward moment
And the body lying fetal

Feeling the sudden urge
Scream aloud in pain
The persistent chatter
Banging around in your brain

The soft sided egg
Dripping all scooped out
The face looking grim
The mutinous glaring pout

All worms tied and collared
No insecurity here
What's all this violent talk?
This menacing air we are near.
