It's official. The Internet is evil. Until one minute ago, I was a champion of all things high tech, a born idealist and a believer in the possibility of online Utopia.
I know that it was one minute ago because I created a Twitter login.
Five seconds ago, I was "decrying Internet evil". Less than five seconds ago I was "still ranting about internet evil". I'm keeping it updated.
If you're wondering what the heck I'm talking about, I envy you. I have felt slightly nauseous for the one minute and five seconds I've known about Twitter. I have enjoyed watching videos on Youtube and have the Flickr "photo of the day" gadget on my Google homepage. I spend more time on Helium.com than I should, and I have recently admitted to a serious problem with answering Yahoo questions. (I've seen the light with regard to Yahoo, and will limit my answering to an occasional luxury rather than a daily obsession.) I mention all this so you know I am not some anti-UGC nutcase who believes Adsense steals your soul if you write a blog entry. Not with any great conviction, at any rate.

Others are humorous and some are insightful and candid. So, while many Helium articles contain useless drivel (less than five seconds ago I was having a mini-athsma attack induced by dust, dog dander, and Twitter related outrage), the site as a whole is not without value. The same can be said of Yahoo answers, which allows users to tell other users things they want to know. (One minute ago I was eating left over chips from Chipotle.) Youtube and Flickr, of course provide a means of artistic expression, and blogs can be used for good are evil and hence do not belong inherently to either category. (Less than five seconds ago I was feeling guilty about eating the left over Chipotle chips instead of saving them for my husband.)
Twitter does none of the things described above. It simply allows the user to enter their current answer to one question: what
